Eagles star Brandon Graham is ready to tackle a reduced role, but with his signature smile
Once upon a time, in a land that is far away, Radio City Music Hall in New York City to be exact, there was an NFL Draft that took place in 2010. The Philadelphia Eagles were on the clock after trading up to the 13th overall selection. Some believed they would take Earl Thomas, a safety from the Texas Longhorns. It made sense. Someone had to fill the void created by Brian Dawkins' departure during the 2009 offseason. Philly had other plans though.
They, instead, took a defensive end from the Michigan Wolverines, Brandon Graham. Perhaps you have heard of him? His story is one that is still being written, but so far, we have a literary classic.
Year 14 in the NFL nears, and Brandon Graham is handling the role of elder statesman nicely.
B.G. has seen adversity and has conquered it. He's a Detroit guy yet also 'Philly'. This season, he is being asked to accept a new role. He'll possibly see even fewer snaps than he saw in 2022 while teaching the young guys how to be professionals. We expect he'll do so with his signature smile.
Recently, he appeared on a Tuesday edition of Sports Take with Derrick Gunn and Rob Ellis. Mentoring the Eagles' young stars was just one of the topics that were on the table. Check out the full discussion below. Thank JAKIB Sports' YouTube channel for the clip.
Every offseason, we see names change on the backs of jerseys. That isn't true in B.G.s case. He enters his 14th NFL season. All have been played in the midnight green.
At this point, it feels like seeing him in another ensemble would be one of the strangest things that we could witness. A story that began with a first-round selection led to what we'd call a 'slow start', but 55 hung in there.
The light eventually came on, and now, that struggling prospect is a Super Bowl hero who just happened to author the most famous strip sack in franchise history. He's an Eagle through and through. He accepted a pay cut to return home.
Yes, his snaps will decrease, but these young Birds couldn't have a better teacher to learn from. His tale is one of passion, pride, and perseverance. Let's hope it also includes another Super Bowl win.
