It's time to fan those Eagles, DeAndre Hopkins flames again as star WR hires DeVonta Smith's agent
It feels like it has been three weeks since we talked about this, but you remember those rumors about DeAndre Hopkins possibly finding his way to the Philadelphia Eagles after being released by the Arizona Cardinals, don't you? Well, the smoke didn't lead to any fire, at least not yet, but there's still enough smoke that we can blow some in your direction if you're interested. Even if you aren't, this one is still worth mentioning.
It appears that some of the best players on the Cards' roster don't want to play for AZ anymore. Hey... Good luck with that Jonathan Gannon! DeAndre has escaped despite still having some time left on his sentence, and after representing himself for a while, he looks to have hired an agency to do that for him.
Wouldn't you know it? It's one Eagles fans and a couple of their players are familiar with.
DeAndre Hopkins joins Klutch Sports, the same agency that represents DeVonta Smith and Jalen Hurts.
In some circles, it's called 'being messy'. Such instances occur when there's an attempt to create drama where there isn't any. Most of us didn't believe that the Eagles would actually add DeAndre Hopkins when he expressed being disgruntled, but we felt the need to talk about him anyway knowing full well the terms of trade figured to be too expensive. On top of that, Philly already has A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on the roster. What do they need DeAndre for, right?
Sure, we all took some interest. Some believed it would be a good idea. Others talked about why this would be a bad fit for Philly's culture. Then, it happened. After Albert Breer reported that it appeared only two teams had interest, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, the Cards gave up on a trade and simply released him after the interested parties backed away. Arizona took a huge cap hit in the process.
DeAndre is a free man, and we're back to discussing him even though some of the midnight green smoke we recently saw didn't lead to any fires. Here's something interesting to toss around though.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that DeAndre has hired Kelton Crenshaw of Klutch Sports to represent him. Crenshaw is also DeVonta Smith's agent, and as you know, Klutch Sports' football division is led by Nicole Lynn, Jalen Hurts' agent.
Sure, none of that has anything to do with the Eagles current roster. It most certainly doesn't ensure that Hopkins will trade one bird's nest for another, but you have to admit that it's worth mentioning, especially if you feel like being 'messy'. Then again, one can also make the argument that Crenshaw doesn't need two of his top clients competing with one another to earn extensions as members of the same roster.
