Eagles deserving blame for a heartbreaking loss to the Falcons in Week 2

We hate to point fingers after a loss, but in this case, we're only stating what everyone else is thinking.

On-demand broadcasts have spoiled us. The same can be said about recorded programming. Once upon a time, most of us were too busy to watch live TV, unless we meant a Philadelphia Eagles game. Now, we can watch whatever we want whenever we feel like doing so. Raise your hand if that's made you watch more TV than ever.

Yep! That's what we thought.

We saw Philly's Week 2 game live, but say we hadn't. Let's pretend we recorded the game so we could watch it later. Had someone spoiled the outcome before we saw it, we would have still driven home, watched, and expected an Eagles win. That's how shocking this loss was.

We're nearing that point where we should begin discussing the New Orleans Saints, but admittedly we still can't stop thinking about the collapse. That being said, here are a handful of Birds who are in our doghouse.

Yeah, we love you guys, but seriously... What the heck is going on?

Nick Sirianni - Head Coach

The chatter about Nick Sirianni's job status and the questions about what he does have grown louder since Monday Night Football. It's clear he isn't an X's and O's coach, but if he can't even manage the game properly, there has to be tremendous concern about this team's chances with him on the sideline.

He's a winner, but he has to be better. Ask him, and we're certain that he will agree with that.

Vic Fangio - Defensive Coordinator

It's hard to believe in Vic Fangio. His fingerprints are all over the NFL. There are so many defensive coordinators that run some variation of his scheme.

The secret is out. If his unit can't get any pressure (which the Eagles can't), things fall apart quickly. This system can't thrive versus good running teams, and even if there is some success, Philly doesn't tackle well enough for that to matter.

This 'genius' had better come up with something, and he had better do so quickly.

Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis- Defensive Tackles

As you know, Philly spent first-round picks on Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter in consecutive NFL Drafts (2022 and 2023). On Monday Night Football, they combined for three tackles.

Meanwhile, Thomas Booker registered three solo tackles in a reserve role. The math is off here. This defense NEEDS these two to produce.

Bryce Huff - EDGE

Where is Bryce Huff? He didn't crack the stat sheet at all in Week 2. He didn't register a sack. He didn't make a tackle. Heck, Bryce Huff didn't do anything.

We are certain he isn't a better football player than Haason Reddick. That is obvious, but at minimum, he has to be serviceable, and he isn't even doing that.

The Eagles' pass rush as a whole

Philly is getting nothing from its pass rush, and the blame for that can't all fall on Huff's shoulders. Nolan Smith... Brandon Graham... Josh Sweat... The defensive interior... None of these guys are getting to the opposing teams' quarterback with any consistency.

And, even if they are getting to the other team's QB, they aren't bringing them down. All of that leads us back to Vic Fangio. It's a long season, but a shift certainly needs to happen.
