Last season is simply that... last season. Despite all of their success and their many achievements, the Philadelphia Eagles, despite carrying the title of being the NFL's reigning champions of the National Football Conference, are starting over. We wish they were doing so with a second Vince Lombardi Trophy, but they aren't. We apologize if that reopened any wounds.

There are a few silver linings that we can mention. Much of the veteran core is still intact. That includes the brilliant Haason Reddick. The most recent offseason and NFL Draft were both promising. Last season was tons of fun... until it ended.

Unfortunately, none of the success we saw has any bearing on what we'll see going forward. The 2023-2024 regular season is a tad over two months away at the time of this story's publishing. The Birds have zero wins and zero losses on their ledger... just like everyone else.

Thank goodness for Haason Reddick. The 2023 Eagles' defense may again be a force to be reckoned with.

You probably don't need to be reminded of the recent Eagles roster turnover, but we'll give you a brief recap anyway. Philly lost their best young defensive tackle from last year's roster. They lost their top two safeties and linebackers from last year's depth chart, but there's no reason to be alarmed.

One of the reasons that we can say that with confidence is they are still home to Haason Reddick. Just in case you need to be reminded, he's a wrecking ball and someone that Philly can treat as one of the cornerstones of Sean Desai's defense. All we need to know now is what said defense will look like.

Reddick's reputation is well established though. His stats also back up the hype. According to Next Gen Stats, he stacked 62 quarterback pressures last season and only three players had a higher QB pressure rate.

Micah Parsons (70 pressures, 16.4% QB pressure rate), Nick Bosa (73 pressures, 15.9% QB pressure rate), and Myles Garrett (72 pressures, 16.3% QB pressure rate) finished ahead of him on a list of the top 10 disruptors of 2022. Reddick finished fourth. Chris Jones, Alex Highsmith, former Eagle Javon Hargrave, Matt Judon, Brian Burns, and Quinnen Williams rounded out the rest of the list's top ten.

Here's what was said about Reddick.

"The Eagles flirted with history in 2022, coming just short of resetting the single-season record for sacks registered by one team. There's a reason two Eagles made this list, and Reddick was the best of the team’s talented group.

Reddick was an absolute machine in 2022, recording 16 sacks, three turnovers caused by pressure, and a QB pressure rate north of 15 percent. Folks who watched him in his one-season stint in Carolina (2021) could see this coming. Unfortunately for Philadelphia's opponents, they didn't see it soon enough.

In 2022, Reddick was undeniable. He was all but inevitable. And at $15 million per year, he's a steal for the Eagles."

Nick Shook, Around The NFL Writer

Josh Sweat has been getting a lot of love this offseason after racking up 11 sacks in 2022. Keep an eye on him as well. Shook placed him just outside the top ten as an honorable mention.

Sweat tallied 11 sacks last season despite missing a game last season and being knocked out of another early due to injury. Reddick racked up 49 total tackles (35 were solo) while also adding 16 sacks, 26 additional QB hits, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and three pass breakups to what has already been an impressive NFL resume. He still has two years remaining on his current deal.

Everywhere you look, Reddick and Sweat are receiving rave reviews.

Simply put, if Haason Reddick is on any team's roster and doesn't fit that team's defensive scheme, the issue probably isn't Haason Reddick. The issue is with the scheme and its need to be altered. The secret is out on Philly's star edge rusher. He won't sneak up on anyone in 2023, but the wheels are already in motion. We're expecting more punch and fireworks from the guy in the Number 7 Eagles jersey again.
