Eagles hit home run by selecting Quinyon Mitchell: Instant grade and analysis
Who needs a great drama or TV show when pro football continues to be the best version of reality television known to man? What a watch the NFL Draft has been! Months of speculation have led us to the answers to many of our questions involving the Philadelphia Eagles (and the need for us to ask a few more). Smoke cleared. Dust settled. Decision time came. One year after landing what might wind up being the best defensive tackle of the 2023 draft class, the Birds land this class's top cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell.
The former Toledo star was a phenomenal cover guy AND ball hawk for the Toledo Rockets. Standing at six-foot-tall and tipping the scales at 196 pounds, he's a speedster who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. He's fast enough to keep up with any receiver. He's stout enough physically to body anyone. In 2023, he stacked 41 tackles, an interception, and 18 passes defended after notching 42 tackles, five interceptions, and 19 passes defended in 2022.
Who would have thought? The first DB taken on night one of the selection meeting was taken at 22. He joins a unit that already includes James Bradberry, Darius Slay, Kelee Ringo, and Avonte Maddox among others.
Expect Quinyon Mitchell to step in and contribute for the Eagles immediately as this is a home-run addition.
Philly's first-round selection is now in our rearview mirror. The Birds currently own seven more draft choices at the time of this story's release. Here they are.
- Day two, Round 2: Pick 50 (via New Orleans)
- Day two, Round 2: Pick 53
- Day three, Round 4: Pick 120 (via Pittsburgh)
- Day three, Round 5: Pick 161 (via Tampa Bay)
- Day three, Round 5: Pick 171 (compensatory pick)
- Day three, Round 5: Pick 172 (comp pick)
- Day three, Round 6: Pick 210 (comp pick)
Some of the pressing needs they still need to address include EDGE, inside linebacker, offensive tackle, and tailback. We'll see where strategy takes them on Friday, but for now, here's a tip of the cap to Howie Roseman and his team.
Again, the first night of the NFL Draft has been a fantastic watch, and guess what? There are still two more days and six more rounds to digest.
Final grade for the Quinyon Mitchell addition: A+
