Here's some Eagles intel from voices outside of the organization
Well, we made it! High five a friend. We endured the collapse. We watched the suddenly-hated San Francisco 49ers lose a Super Bowl we felt like the Philadelphia Eagles should have been playing in (and, we enjoyed it). We traveled from the Senior Bowl through Top 30 Visits and Pro Days. We eventually celebrated an exciting NFL Draft class. Free agents were signed. We're excited about those as well.
Then.... There was the stuff that transpired off of the field.
Whenever one of the NFL's high-profile teams is winning (or losing), there will be public discussion. The Eagles organization knows that well. That's some of the result of playing in a football-crazy town for a passionate fan base, but there were times last season when what we were seeing ventured over into what we see on reality television.
That stuff has been mentioned time and time again. You have read those stories 50 times or more, so there's no need to revisit the areas where we have seen more drama than necessary. We'll instead ask a question. What comes next? As always, the answer comes in curing the immediate issues.
Philadelphia Eagles narratives are reaching the national media.
We feel calm despite the rising anxiety in a curious and sometimes rowdy fan base. We refuse to feed the monster that is 'Negadelphia'. We realize some of the fanned flames result from a relatively slow news cycle, but as training camp begins, some of the discussions aren't dying. We have seen the opposite. They've been amplified from behind a microphone.
Nick Sirianni's job security might be questioned, but we know what he needs to do to keep it. Meanwhile, some support him. They believe placing him on a hot seat is unfair. Emmanuel Acho, a former Bird seems to believe the opposite.
Do you agree?
Dianna Russini adds even more to the mixture. She weighed in on a few things Eagles recently in her What I'm Hearing write-up, including theories that Philly's locker-room concerns came long before there was ever a losing streak or a collapse.
The full conversation can be heard by way of her podcast. She also addressed a few other things including Jalen Hurts's relationship with Sirianni:
"We’ve seen Jalen Hurts on the sideline with Nick Sirianni, and they were not going at one another. But, there is definitely a difference in personality. The way I would describe it: The relationship is still a work in progress. Last year there was some disconnect between them, due to their personalities. Nick, we’ve seen, is a very emotional guy. Jalen is a very private guy. They are different human beings, which is fine. You don’t all have to be the same, but you do have to be on the same page when it comes to what you want to do on offense."
She also discussed everything from Howie Roseman hiring Nick's coordinators for him to Brian Johnson being handcuffed by running Nick Sirianni's offense. 'Handcuffed' is our word, not hers.
Russini's takes are evidence that an intriguing conversation piece like the Eagles is one that will be discussed by the national media going forward. They don't seem to care that local media is tiring of hearing the gossip.
Jalen and Nick... Sirianni's survival... Expect these stories to carry over into camp.
