Well, rules are rules. We know the National Football League puts its premium on safety. Jalen Hurts' Week 16 infraction didn't injure anyone, but he's going to see a dent in his wallet as we get set to enjoy a Philadelphia Eagles game on New Year's Eve before turning the calendar's page from 2023 to 2024.

QB1's horse-collar tackle on New York Giants cornerback Adoree’ Jackson attracted the watchful eye of league offices. That's one of the day's biggest stories as is the addition of defensive reinforcements.

Eagles news: Jalen Hurts is fined $16,391 by the NFL.

One of the low moments of the Eagles recent victory over the New York Giants was a pick-six interception thrown by Jalen Hurts to Adoree' Jackson. The Giants star took that one to the house and helped Big Blue narrow what had been a reasonably comfortable Eagles lead.

To make matters worse, Jalen drew a flag. Here's the visual for those that may have missed it.

We often see fines for rough hits on quarterbacks. Very rarely do we see QBs fined, but here's your unicorn. Jalen's attempt at a tackle results in a $16,391 fine. That has to suck after Christmas, but it could be a lot worse. With that, we move along to some roster notes.

Eagles roster news: Philly announces several moves, including the activation of Avonte Maddox.

Well, the band isn't totally back together, but as we always say, many of the guys are showing up at the garage and playing a few notes. This one gives credence to a theory we have been tossing around all week.

The Eagles announced on the eve of their Week 17 game versus the Arizona Cardinals that they're activating Avonte Maddox from the injured reserve to their active roster. He's been out due to a pectoral injury since Philly's home opener versus the Minnesota Vikings. He is expected to start on Sunday.

We knew on Friday that Darius Slay would miss another game. He's been ruled out of Philadelphia's game with Zona. Zach Cunningham (knee) and Albert Okwuegbunam (hamstring) were questionable at that time. They were downgraded to 'OUT' on Saturday. Albert O. has since been added to the Eagles' injured reserve while linebacker Brandon Smith has been elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game.
