3. Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy takes the third spot due to his inability to win big games during the postseason. The Super Bowl 45-winning head coach (he was with the Green Bay Packers then) has failed to make it back to the big game during his last eight postseason appearances. That stretch includes stints in Green Bay and Dallas.

McCarthy landed the Cowboys job in 2020 after taking a year off from coaching. An ankle injury to quarterback Dak Prescott threw a wrench in things. He landed on the injured reserve in October, and the team struggled before finishing the season with a 6-10 mark.

With a fully healthy team, it looked like 2021 might be the year for Dallas. They began the campaign with a 7-2 and won the NFC East with a 12-5 record. They faced the 10-7 49ers in the Wild Card Round but didn't appear to be ready. They committed numerous penalties. McCarthy mismanaged the clock, and a failed comeback attempt came up short. No one will ever forget Prescott's final scramble and the expiring clock.

The 2022 season got off to a rough start. Prescott missed several weeks due to injury, but the Cowboys played on and battled their way to a second consecutive 12-5 season. They destroyed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, securing their fourth playoff win since 1996. A dismal effort on offense versus the 49ers in the Divisional Round ended the season.

The upcoming campaign is another big test for Mike McCarthy. With the ascent of Sirianni and Daboll, McCarthy could be on the hot seat if his team isn't competitive this year. Dallas is used to enjoying success versus weaker NFC East teams, but the division appears to have leveled out. Jerry Jones has been patient, but will that continue? It's been nearly 30 years since they've landed in an NFC Championship Game.
