Eagles players who could get big money elsewhere after cap increase
“If you look good, you feel good, If you feel good, you play good, If you play good, they pay good.” Wow... Say what you will about Deion Sanders. Truer words have never been spoken, especially when it comes to matters like free agency. The new league year nears. You know the drill. The Philadelphia Eagles have a ton of decisions to make about a slew of impending free agents.
The enhanced salary cap, $255.4M per club, will allow the Birds more flexibility to help make that happen. Here's something we haven't discussed a ton though. It will also allow guys to seek big money elsewhere.
Here are five of about ten guys that come to mind.
D'Andre Swift, running back
Most of us to a man or a woman would love to have D'Andre Swift back for another season. Now, his presence doesn't guarantee that the Eagles won't need another tailback. The opposite is true. If he and Kenneth Gainell are lead backs in Kellen Moore's attack, the Birds will still need some sort of workhorse. We're absolutely sick of watching the designed quarterback runs to Jalen Hurts. We're sick of holding our breath every time he's hit or tackled.
Now, even in saying that, we have to be realistic. Spotrac believes Swift's market value is in the four-year, $27,153,696 range. That's an average salary of $6,788,424 per season. That would also rank him eighth among tailbacks.
Sure, that sounds nice for D'Andre, but that ain't happening in Philly even WITH the news of the recent salary cap increase. Trust us on this though. If the Birds don't pay him, another team will. The same can be said for the rest of the guys on this list.
