Sometimes, when we hear statements made by Darius Slay, we have to take them with grains of salt, but 'Big Play' was right when saying that the Philadelphia Eagle's wide receiver corps didn't have a 'Robin' in its bunch. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, ‘Swole Batman’ and ‘Skinny Batman’ respectively, are both capable of wearing the superhero tag. Neither can be seen as a sidekick. Unfortunately, whenever the City of Brotherly Love shone its Bat Signal for Quez Watkins, they, more often than not, didn't get the same superhero-level performance. Don't look now, but 'Fast Batman' is in hot water.

Slay nailed his description of Brown and Smith. It's hard to remember a time when calling someone WR1 and WR1a was ever used accurately, and yes, A.J. and DeVonta are both 'swole' and 'skinny', That brings us back to Quez. Entering year four, he has a lot to prove (and a lot on the line), but in his case, the nickname has come with a burden, one he is trying to shed in 2023. In the meantime, there's an announcement that needs to be made.

Is there any chance that Darius Slay wishes he could walk the 'Fast Batman' nickname back?

Yes, Quez Watkins is fast. He can pick them up and put them down with the best of them, but he hasn't reached the superhero level, at least not yet. Looking back, adding a third guy kind of kills the WR1/WR1a thing, but it also may have subconsciously created an expectation and outside pressure on Quez that probably didn’t need to be there.

We believed the hype. Yo, we have three stars at wide receiver! In some ways, it was automatic. Brown and Smith are enough to make one believe that the best wide receiver corps in the league. Throw in a burner like Quez, and if he plays his role perfectly, Philly's offense becomes untouchable.

Yeah... And then, came the fumble versus the Washington Commanders... and the Gardner Minshew interception in Arlington versus the Dallas Cowboys. That one was on Quez too. So was that costly drop in Super Bowl LVII. Watkins' 2022-2023 Eagles season is remembered more so for what he did wrong than what he did well.

The fumble on Monday Night Football versus the Commanders immediately killed any chances of a comeback. It was as if the air left Lincoln Financial Field. ‘Fast Batman' looked more like 'Robin' last season, one the real Batman had to pull out of the fire. A new season represents new opportunities though, and Number 16 is ready to get back to work.

Well, this is absolutely not what we needed. Revenge SZN against who? Against us? Himself? What does that mean exactly?

Listen, if you have high expectations, you, more often than not, are going to be disappointed. That’s why you have to set your bar as low as possible. Saying that Quez is looking "VERY GOOD" in MAY is an absurd way to do just the opposite of that... ESPECIALLY for a WR3.

We haven't given up hope. Fingers are crossed, and if that revenge tour does come, no one will be happier than us. Still, sixth-round draft choices are sixth-round draft choices for a reason. It may be time to temper expectations and treat everything Quez Watkins does as a bonus. Things may actually work out better if we do so.
