Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE

Okay... Okay... Hold on... Hold on... Everyone calm down. We realize that, for many of you, seeing Jadeveon Clowney or hearing his name brings angst. There was that time he buried his helmet in Nick Foles' chest, and it was seemingly unnecessary to do so. There was also that time he went 'Hulk Smash' on Carson Wentz in the playoff game. That one was definitely unnecessary.

Clowney is always available late in the offseason as he's a former top pick who has now become an NFL mercenary. We're not saying we want him. Truthfully, it's probably best that the Eagles ignore him, but on Philly's roster, he'd be a luxury, not a necessity, and in a rotation, he could produce some big plays at big moments. What do you think? Control, alt, delete?

Biggest concern

Though we talk about him as an edge rusher, Clowney is actually a better run defender. He always has been. The dirt plays are more a result of his occasional lack of control. There are also questions about his motor.

Dawuane Smoot, defensive end

Dawuane Smoot is one of those guys we would discuss more often had he played somewhere like Dallas, Los Angeles, or New York, but he didn't. His first six seasons were spent as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

They haven't been good during most of his time there, but that isn't Smoot's fault. He has notched five sacks or more during each of the past four seasons.

Biggest concern

The biggest concern about Smoot doesn't have anything to do with performance or ability. The questions about him stem from an Achilles tear he suffered in December.

It's always hard to determine what timetables should be for return where those are concerned. At 28 years old, however, we can assume he will heal and be back to 100% health at some point.
