Tyrion Davis-Price was the third-best running back on Philly's roster for most of camp and the preseason. He was never going to overtake Saquon Barkley, Kenneth Gainwell, or Will Shipley on the depth chart, but he was good enough to try to make the 53-man roster as the fourth tailback (if Philly elected to keep four).

He entered the preseason finale with much to prove. We all knew he'd probably see some carries.

Jacob Harris was in a different position. He was a guy who had been on the outside of the top 53 and looking in. He had flashed at times during camp, but his job in the preseason finale was clear.

He was auditioning for other teams. We also knew we'd see a lot of him.

The same was true of Brandon Smith. He had sat out of several practices but enjoyed a nice moment in the second preseason game, recovering a fumble to end the game following a bad Patriots snap attempt.

Smith also needed a good game. A spot on the scout team or another team was the goal Let's just say things don't always go as we all plan.

Tyrion Davis-Price suffers a setback while Jacob Harris exits the Eagles preseason finale with an injury.

During his first five carries, Davis-Price looked damn good. He averaged six yards per carry, but disaster came on his sixth. He was stripped of the ball and fumbled. The Vikings recovered and took possession. You can't make those mistakes when trying to make the roster.

Tyrion's mistake is the type that will convince a coaching staff to carry three tailbacks on the 53-man roster rather than four. Harris sadly wouldn't even enjoy the chance to make any real impression.

Following some friendly fire during the opening kickoff, he left the game with a concussion. Fingers are crossed that he's okay. Smith, who as mentioned earlier, sat out for an extended period during training camp, but he spent some time in the medical tent before heading back to the locker room. That's a shame, he was making a little noise from the linebacker position, including a good-looking stop that forced a third down.

Looking past all of this, it appears the ceiling for both guys might be a spot on the Eagles' practice squad. You never know though. We'll see how things go next Tuesday during the final roster cuts.
