Eagles rumors: Philly is reportedly expressing 'internal concern' about Jalen Hurts
No one ever wants to hear the words 'internal concern' when discussing some of the best or their favorite players on their favorite teams, or any players on their favorite team for that matter. Reportedly, those words are floating around the NovaCare Complex, and the subject is the Philadelphia Eagles' QB1, Jalen Hurts.
Philly sits at 10-4 on the season. Their quarterback, just a few days after Thanksgiving was an MVP candidate. Now, following three consecutive losses, there are questions about the same thing we always loved about him, his demeanor and leadership style.
Jeff McLane details discussions about possible internal concerns about Jalen Hurts' leadership style.
Playing quarterback in the NFL isn't an easy gig, for obvious reasons. They receive too much credit when teams win. They are often the lightning rod for negative discussions when those same teams lose.
Jalen Hurts has been on both sides of those types of discussions. That's to be expected. After all, quarterbacks are the only football players with win-loss tallies attached to their names.
Here's something that you may want to check out when you have a moment, unCovering the Birds, Season 2, Episode 6: Misery. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane does some good work on the imprint. One of his recent theories and drops involves, you guessed it, Jalen Hurts. The dreaded 'internal concerns' label has fallen on Philly's star.
Here's some of what was said.
"The team has been patient with Hurts, even though they awarded him with a $255 million contract in the offseason. He may just be experiencing a few bumps, but there is some internal concern about the stoic 25-year-old."
McLane continued...
"The Eagles want their franchise quarterback to be authentic, but they also want him to open himself up a little more in the locker room and have a more outward leadership style when it’s needed during difficult stretches, several team sources close to the situation said."
Should we be worried. The gut reaction tells us that we shouldn't be. These are growing pains. A young man is still learning how to do his job. You have to admit though. This is interesting.
On April 27th, Jalen signed a five-year contract extension worth $255 million with $180 million guaranteed. That made him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time. He proved to be worth every penny last season, but as you know the NFL is a 'what have you done for me lately' league.
Hurts has been good at times and disappointing at others. He may also be the most mature 25-year-old the world has ever seen.
