He turned the Florida Gators into an aerial show during his time in The Swamp as their offensive coordinator. He played the quarterback position himself. He has known Jalen Hurts since the Philadelphia Eagles QB1 was a young lad. Those are the reasons we thought Brian Johnson would shine as Philly's O.C., but as it turns out, the Birds floundered under his watch. The winds of change have come.

Per Jeff McLane, the Eagles will relieve Brian Johnson of his duties as Eagles O.C. and enter 2024 with yet another. Derrick Gunn was first with the news as he mentioned the same on Monday.

For the second straight season, the Eagles are in the market for an offensive and defensive coordinator.

Johnson was promoted to Eagles O.C. from the quarterbacks coach's chair following Shane Steichen's departure. The latter was hired to lead the Indianapolis Colts as their head coach following a successful Birds season.

Johnson mentored Jalen Hurts to near-MVP levels in both 2022 and the first ten games of the most recent regular season, but Philly struggled down the stretch. Brian found himself in the crosshairs of fans and the media. This is a move that shouldn't shock anyone.

Some believe he was doomed from the word 'go', that he was handcuffed by Nick Sirianni's offense not the limitations of his own ability. That's water under the bridge now.

That argument may go on forever. The bottom line, however, is the marriage is over, Johnson is out, and the Eagles are again seeking coordinators.
