Eagles star DeVonta Smith celebrated fatherhood with Sunday's elite TD celebration
If you placed a wager on DeVonta Smith as an anytime touchdown scorer or, even better, the Philadelphia Eagles' first TD scorer of last Sunday's regular-season opener in Foxborough versus the New England Patriots, you have, no doubt, given yourself a high five all week. Following a forced fumble by Jordan Davis on long-time rival Ezekiel Elliott, Jalen Hurts hit Skinny Batman for Philly's first (and only) offensive TD contest of the contest. You may have been confused by the celebration though.
Don't be. As it turns out, our guy, the man formerly known as the Slim Reaper was celebrating for two reasons.
DeVonta Smith rocks the baby in celebration of his first TD reception of the NFL season AND the birth of his newborn daughter.
In 2022, one of the biggest stories that came out of the Eagles Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions was DeVonta Smith didn't haul in a catch during the game. Philly adjusted. They fixed that in a hurry. By season's end, Number 6 had hauled in 95 grabs. He set a franchise record for single-season receptions by doing so (tight end and Birds legend Zach Ertz is still the owner of the single-season record for TD receptions overall)
This time around, Philly didn't forget about their guy during the first game of 2023. He visited the end zone during the second offensive drive of the afternoon and rather than dance or spike the ball, he simply rocked the baby.
Take a look!
That's abslutely fantastic. Fatherhood is a wonderful thing, but if you're worried about the Eagles' young star letting himself go and ending up with a 'dad bod', don't be! This guy couldn't put on weight even if he tried.
