It’s hard to believe that there was ever a discussion about whether the Philadelphia Eagles should utilize a first-round draft choice on DeVonta Smith. Sure, he turned out to be a home run. Most of us knew that he would be, but there were still questions about whether he should be a part of Philly’s roster.

Ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, as is the case every offseason, fans and the media were split about who Philadelphia should draft. Some believed the best bet was to add a shutdown corner like Patrick Surtain. Others thought the best play was adding Micah Parsons.

Others still tossed around ideas of drafting another quarterback, Justin Fields. They had ideas of creating a competition between him and Jalen Hurts. In the end, we can all agree that the Birds made the right choice.

The only questions now are about how good Smith can become at the professional level and where he ranks historically among some of the best players to ever wear The Tide’s uniform. We’re still working on the answer to that first question. Hopefully, Skinny Batman has ten years or more left to play, but he seems to have already made his mind up about the answer to that first question.

Eagles star receiver DeVonta Smith shares his thoughts with Darius Slay on who the top five wideouts in Alabama history are.

With there being a new podcast seemingly birthed daily, it can, sometimes be difficult to find the necessary listens. You can’t go wrong with WSE Original New Heights or The Volume’s Big Play Slay show though.

Recently, on the latter, Slay welcomed teammate and good friend DeVonta Smith, and the Heisman Trophy winner took some time to shout out his old collegiate stomping grounds and the five best receivers in the Alabama Crimson Tide’s history.

That’s an impressive list indeed. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They also say game recognizes game. DeVonta Smith has seen some impressive wideouts during his time with The Tide and both pre and post his arrival.

His list may not look like yours or someone else’s. It’s still hard to deny all five guys mentioned certainly made a name for themselves as members one of college football's top football programs. Kudos to DeVonta Smith for placing himself at number five when he's the only member of his list that won a Heisman Trophy. Every day, we find new reasons to pull for this guy.
