Eagles veterans who could be left off 53-man roster to make room for rookies
Every veteran cornerback not named Darius Slay, James Bradberry, or Avonte Maddox
Avonte Maddox is five-foot-nine and tips the scales at 184 pounds. He also gets hurt a lot. He has only completed an entire NFL season once (in 2021, he appeared in 16 of 17 games but sat out of the regular-season finale versus the Dallas Cowboys as Philly made the decision to rest their starters). He will again hold down slot duty as the Eagles' third corner.
James Bradberry and Darius Slay are the starters on the outside. We all know how good they are, but as is the case with the wide receiver position, if someone gets hurt, we have a lot to talk about.
One would think that Zech McPhearson is the fourth man on the depth chart, but there's a new sheriff in town, Sean Desai. The guys have to prove themselves to their new defensive coordinator.
Josh Jobe was one of three undrafted rookie free agents to make the roster, but he isn't safe. Greedy Williams comes with a resume and 21 starts in three seasons. He sat out of the 2020 NFL season. Tristin McCollum is another new guy. The other veterans on the roster are Josiah Scott and and second-year man Mario Goodrich.
The undrafted rookies are Mekhi Garner (LSU) and Eli Ricks (Alabama). Philly drafted Kelee Ringo during Round 4 of the NFL Draft. They'll all have their opportunities to make this roster, and that makes this competition at cornerback one of camp's most intriguing.
Bonus: Ty Zentner
We don't talk about punters much. Sometimes, they're treated like they're barely on the team, but that changes quickly if your team doesn't have a good one.
Ask most Eagles fans and they'll tell you they're ready to help Arryn Siposs pack his bags. Philadelphia brought in Ty Zentner to give him some competition, and there isn't anyone who knows this kid that doesn't believe he can't beat Siposs out.
Here's a bonus. Zentner can kick field goals and kickoffs too, so he provides insurance if Jake Elliott sustains an unexpected injury.
