John Johnson III, Safety

One of the most talked about positions of the Eagles' offseason, Philly could benefit from adding depth to their free safety position. John Johnson III has spent his six NFL seasons as a member of the Cleveland Browns (2021-2022) and, before that, the Los Angeles Rams (2017-2020). He is someone who excels in coverage.

Johnson has 12 interceptions and 41 pass breakups on his professional resume. According to Pro Football Focus, he has a positive coverage grade in all but one season of his career. His only negative defense grade registered came after the 2019 NFL season after earning a 53.5 grade on 395 defensive snaps.

Johnson III has struggled with tackling. He is credited with 17 missed tackles in 2022 and seven or more in all but one of his six seasons. He has, however, shown that he can be an opportunistic player on defense. He has forced three fumbles and two sacks over the past two seasons and can also provide value on special teams having returned both punts and kickoffs.

John Johnson can bring a veteran experience to the safety position while also giving the team a rangy safety that can make their defense and special teams unit even stronger.
