Giants vs. Eagles Key Players to Watch
New York Giants
Saquon Barkley: With the Eagles’ defense struggling to stop the run, the Giants’ best offense is running the ball with Barkley. The star running back was held to a season-low 14 yards on nine carries in last week’s loss to the Saints. This season, Barkley has 797 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 194 carries. The veteran running back averages 68.2 rushing yards per game on the road.
Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts: The turnover issues again showed up for Hurts as he threw two interceptions in Monday night’s loss to the Seahawks. Hurts has thrown two or more interceptions three times this season. The star quarterback will look to turn it around against the Giants, who are ranked 24th in opponent total yards per game allowed (356.7).
Giants vs. Eagles Prediction and Pick
The Philadelphia Eagles still control their destiny to win the NFC East, but they can’t afford to lose any more games for the rest of the season. The Eagles’ offense has struggled to score, which is puzzling when you look at the weapons they have. In their last three games, Philly is scoring 16.3 points per game.
However, the good news for Hurts and the Eagles is that they are playing a Giants’ defense that has given up 24.2 points per game in their last five games. New York’s defense is ranked 29th in stopping the run, which should be a point of emphasis for the Eagles to attack.
At the same time, the Eagles’ run defense hasn’t been great either (128 yards per game allowed over their last three games), and they can’t get to the QB. New York will likely use both Barkley and Tommy DeVito in the running game on Christmas.
It’s almost shocking to see the Eagles as double-digit favorites this week, especially with how the last three games have played out. However, this team has proven that they can defeat the lower-tier teams in the NFL. 11 points might be a lot to lay, but the Giants are 0-2 against the spread this season when the spread was +10 to +13.
If Philadelphia doesn’t jump out early on the Giants and blow them out, it might be time to press the panic button.
