Grading the headline-grabbing Eagles in-season roster additions
The Eagles get really busy in October with three roster 'upgrades'.
Some may disagree with calling Bradley Roby, Julio Jones, and Josiah Scott roster upgrades. Hey, what can we say? Injuries occur. Teams don't always have the horses, and there isn't always a ton in the free-agency pool to choose from. That makes someone like Howie make some uncharacteristic decisions and scrape the bottom of a few barrels.
2. Bradley Roby, cornerback (signing) - October 4th
On October 3rd, Bradley Roby signed to Philly's practice squad and has since been added to the active roster. This came after he spent time fielding interest from multiple teams.
He was signed to the active roster on October 13th. He was injured in the game that followed, Week 6's loss to the New York Jets. He spent time on the injured reserve. Here's the verdict.
While Roby might be the best slot corner on the Eagles' roster right now, he isn't much to get excited about. Grade: C - C still means 'average', right?
3. Julio Jones, wide receiver (signing) - October 17th
On October 17th, Julio Jones was signed to their practice squad. On October 21st, he was elevated from the scout team for the game versus the Miami Dolphins. He hauled in one reception for three yards.
He recorded his first receiving touchdown in the Eagles' next game, a road date versus the Washington Commanders. He was signed to the active roster on November 1st, but let's be honest.
He's now living off of his former reputation, and after watching what he did with the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, everyone should have known that. Grade: D - If C does mean 'average; we're assuming a D is below average.
4. Josiah Scott, cornerback (signing) - October 18th
Josiah Scott was waived on August 29th. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad two days later. Roby's injury forced Philly to reacquire him off of the Steelers' scout team.
Since then, he's been waived again and re-signed to the practice squad again. Truth be told, there isn't much here though. Still, we can understand why he was added when he was. Grade: D
