Guess who Vic Fangio tried stealing from the Eagles roster last season in Miami

Vic Fangio has an eye for talent, and he tried to poach some of it from the Eagles' roster last season.

Though some of us believe we can do some jobs better than the guys who are employed to do them, we probably can't. It shouldn't take too long to understand that we probably aren't better coaches than the guys on the Philadelphia Eagles staff simply because we have mastered Madden NFL's 'All-Madden' level.

Some guys get the benefit of the doubt, or they should. Sure, we'll second-guess quite a few of Vic Fangio's play calls this season (especially if they don't work), but here's where we can all agree. Vic knows a heck of a lot more about being a defensive coordinator than any of us.

So, if a guy who's been coaching since 1980 and standing on NFL sidelines since 1986 tells us a guy is worth investing in, you can best believe we're paying attention to what he says.

Vic Fangio seems to be a Milton Williams fan, so much so that he tried to steal the Eagles defensive lineman last season.

We haven't seen Vic Fangio address the Philly media often as Eagles defensive coordinator, but we have seen him do so twice at training camp. His most recent sit-down preceded the eighth practice session. Much of what he said piqued our interest including one detail in particular,

It sounds like Coach Fangio is a Milton Williams fan. We get it. We are too. Kudos to Howie Roseman for turning the Dolphins down.

Williams cut his teeth collegiately at Louisiana Tech from 2017-2020. He earned First-team All-Conference USA honors following his final season and was selected 73rd overall by the Eagles in 2021 during the third round of that year's NFL Draft.

He has appeared in 50 regular-season games with 12 starts and has logged 108 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five pass breakups and a forced fumble. He has seen one start in five playoff games. More than 1,340 defensive snaps and another 187 on special teams are the result of his tenure so far.

He could see the most work of his NFL career so far now that Fletcher Cox has retired. It's also important to note that the 2024 campaign is the final year of his rookie deal. Expect to see maximum effort as this season is an audition for an extension in Philly or a new job as part of another franchise.
