Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni defend Eagles decision to retain James Bradberry
The question asked of Philadelphia Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman was very straightforward and direct. "Do you expect (James Bradberry) to be on the roster (for) the entirety of the season"? Howie's answer was equally as direct during his response.
"Obviously, when you're talking about our 53-man roster at any position, you know, things come up. Opportunities arise for our football team (and) for other football teams, so I don't want to get into that, not only with him but, with anyone."
Here's what all of that means. Howie understands that some of you, fans and media alike, are confused about James's inclusion on the 53-man roster. While he can't promise he's going to be in Philly all season, he can assure everyone that no one has any issue with him being included in the number currently.
That (guaranteeing anyone a season-long roster spot) backs you in a corner, and. you know, we say this to our players. Our word (is) all we got, so when we tell players something, when we tell other teams something, we're going to abide by that."
Makes sense... Howie continued...
"I'd hate to get up here and be dramatic about anything (or) anyone on the roster because through the course of the season", things come up and opportunities arise, but he's on the team because we think he can help our team".
No one in Eagles leadership is second-guessing the decision to keep James Bradberry on the Eagles roster.
Howie's comments came during a press conference that also included head coach Nick Sirianni. This one followed the introduction of the Eagles' 53-man roster.
Some have asked why James Bradberry is seen as good enough to make this team while guys like Parris Campbell, John Ross, and EJ Jenkins were told they weren't. NBC Sports' Reuben Frank had no issue asking Howie and Nick their thoughts and what led to the decision.
James Bradberry knows what many of you think of him. He knows Philly is a tough sports town to play for. He's been given new life. He has two choices now. Barbecue or mildew.
They say pressure makes diamonds and bursts pipes. Let's hope James isn't a pipe.
