Is Reed Blankenship playing this week? Latest Week 3 injury updates for Eagles versus Buccaneers
The hour approaches. The Philadelphia Eagles are rested. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the next speed bump in their journey. We could end this story there, but as is the case with every NFL game, that wouldn't give this battle its due.
Storylines abound. This game has the potential to be one of the most entertaining of the third week's slate, and as is often the case in professional football, injuries are a part of the discussion.
Every NFL season and its included games is a war of attrition. Scheme matters. So does coaching, but who are we kidding? Every coach wants their best players on the field.
Having Reed Blankenship back in the lineup would certainly improve Philly's chances of winning on the road. He missed the Eagles' home opener, and the hope is he'll be back for this one. Here's what we know so far.
Reed Blankenship Injury Status for Week 3 game versus Buccaneers
Reed Blankenship has been dealing with a rib injury. There have been no reports of breaks, so we have all been under the impression that this isn't anything serious and that this will heal with time.
Reed Blankenship injury history
Reed has proven to be very durable for the most part. He suffered a season-ending leg injury as a junior in 2019 while still a member of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders but returned in 2020 and started all nine games during a COVID-shortened season.
In 2021, as a fifth-year senior, he started all 13 games and was the school's leading tackler with 110 stops.
When is Reed Blankenship Coming Back?
After sitting out of Week 2's Thursday Night Football game versus the Minnesota Vikings, the theory was the Birds would let Reed Blankenship continue to rest in hopes that he would be ready for Week 3. He was a full participant at Eagles practice on Friday and Saturday, so it appears that may be true.
A final inactives report is released 90 minutes before kickoff. Signs are pointing to Reed being active. By the time we reach kickoff,15 days will have elapsed between his last game and his next.
