Jalen Carter receives an elite compliment from a former Eagles defender
Jalen Carter... That's it! That's the take! The NFL's most loyal fan base clamored for its young star to show up. He did that and more in Week 3. He was one of the most important cogs of the Philadelphia Eagles defensive push. Pro Football Focus credits him with racking up three tackles, two quarterback hits, and a hurry.
He was certainly a joy to watch, and since what's being described as a statement game for him, people are talking. This is the guy we thought our Eagles drafted.
Now, Carter needs to follow a great performance with others that look similar. Consistency... That will be the key. Brian Baldinger knows a thing or two about the Birds, having played in Philly himself. He recently offered the Dawg an elite compliment.
Brian Baldinger compares Jalen Carter to an Eagles legend, Jerome Brown.
It has been more than 22 years since the Eagles family and fans who adored him lost Jerome Brown. We only watched him play for five years, but he left quite the impression.
If you don't believe that, ask your father. Ask an uncle or a grandfather. It's rare that you will see an equally-elite talent.
Brown donned the Eagles' kelly green and silver from 1987 to 1981. During that time, he stacked quite an impressive resume, and our guy Baldy believes Jalen can be that level of player.
Baldy never got to play with Jerome. His two year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1992 and 1993 came just after Brown's untimely passing. He did, however, share the field with Reggie White. He was teammates with Seth Joyner, Byron Evans, Clyde Simmons, Andre Waters, and Eric Allen. He played under Bud Carson. Trust us. He knows what great defensive players look like.
Brown's Number 99 Eagles jersey is retired. He's also a member of the 75th Anniversary Team and the Eagles Hall of Fame. His resume speaks for itself.
He earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers Association's 1987 All-Rookie Team. He earned two Pro Bowl nods and two First-Team All-Pro mentions. There's no doubt he would have been a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee had he played longer, so if Carter can measure up to that guy, Philly will be happy with him for years and years to come.
