Stories like these need to be told more often. We agonize over the Pro Football Focus rankings system. We place wagers on Jalen Hurts' chances of winning the MVP trophy. We discuss every throw in every Philadelphia Eagles game, but stories like the following make us smile.

Why? NFL stars are too often discussed for their mistakes or what they could have done better. This time we want to say 'thank you'.

Jalen Hurts plays a little hero ball off of the field.

It's been an intriguing year for Jalen Hurts. There was the five-year contract extension worth $255 million with $180 million guaranteed. That was followed by some anonymous theories that the money had changed him. Something that crossed our desks recently, and we're glad it did. Philly's QB1 is reaching into his pockets to help a family out in a dark time.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shone light recently on a story first aired by KHOU 11's news team in the star QB's hometown. Jarvon Coles, a shooting victim, football star, and the owner of a 4.1 GPA at North Shore HS in Houston, Texas (Jalen's rival high school) will have the costs of his funeral paid by Mr. Hurts. We tip our cap to QB1 for his effort.

While we admire Jalen for the kind gesture, we would be remiss without stating our hearts go out to Coles' family as the endure this time of travail. We offer our sincerest condolences. No words can bring comfort to a family who has lost a loved one, but we hope our attempt is acceptable.
