Jalen Hurts leaves Week 13's game because of possible concussion but returns. There is, however, something we must mention.

For most NFL teams, there's no costlier injury than one involving your franchise quarterback. That's doubly true when the discussion turns to the Philadelphia Eagles. We have bad news. We have even worse news. And, we also have some good news.

The bad news is Philly lost versus the San Francisco 49ers. They weren't as impressive in the red zone as we had gotten used to seeing them. That forced them to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns during the Birds' first two drives.

Once the San Francisco 49ers caught fire, there wasn't much that Sean Desai's defense could do to stop them. They rattled off 42 points after falling in that 6-0 hole. Following punts on their first two drives, the Niners' next six drives ended in touchdowns.

That's just half of the even worse news.

For a brief second, we thought the even worse news would also include Jalen Hurts' exit with a possible concussion. That was the bigger story for a spell. He returned, and that's the best news that we could have hoped for.

As a matter of fact, that might be the only good news that came out of this one.

The even worse news wound up being a loss versus the Niners dropped Philly to 10-2 on the season. That wouldn't be an awful thing, but there is an issue worth noting.

The Eagles versus Cowboys game will now determine first place in the NFC East.

Yep! That cushion isn't as fluffy as it once was.

Philly's Week 13 loss doesn't knock them out of the National Football Conference's top spot, for now. It does, however, mean that they and the Dallas Cowboys both own two losses. Guess what?

That means Week 14's game between these age-old rivals will help determine first place in the NFC East.

An Eagles win gives the Birds a season sweep of the Cowboys. A loss evens the season series at a win apiece. The Eagles haven't beaten Dallas in Arlington at AT&T Stadium since the 2017 NFL season.
We have much to discuss as we crank up Cowboys Week again.
