James Bradberry shares the thought process that led to his position switch
Confidence is a key ingredient to playing sports and succeeding. It isn't the only necessary component, but it's certainly important. You've been watching the Philadelphia Eagles long enough to know that. Now, there are levels to this. A fan's temperature can change as often as the weather, but public perception tells us a lot. Just be careful about who you're listening to.
Take last season for instance. There's 'regression', and there's falling off of a cliff. During the 2023-24 NFL season, 2022 Second-Team All-Pro James Bradberry did the latter. As you might imagine, there was tons of feedback.
Fans, of course, noticed. They made their feelings known. Some were worth listening to. Then, there are people like the guy who sat a trash can outside of the NovaCare Complex with James Bradberry's name on it. We can all agree that's taking things too far, right?
Here's something of note. If you disagree, you might be a part of the contingent we're discussing and choose to ignore.
Now, there are levels to this. Fans don't have all of the information. Some don't understand concepts like Brian Johnson's failure as an offensive coordinator is attributable to being handicapped by running Nick Sirianni's offense. Some fans are more knowledgeable. Everyone can see that Bradberry struggled.
All offseason, we have asked questions like 'Will he be cut?' and 'Will he be traded?'. He's still on the roster for now, and he recently met with the Philly media.
James Bradberry answers questions about what led to the Eagles' decision to try him out at safety.
June 1st has come and gone. We're closing July's book. We have heard, written, and read stories about possible landing spots for James Bradberry. We like some better than others. Still, with three training camp practices in the books, he remains part of the Philadelphia Eagles roster, but to remain part of it, he may have to make the move from cornerback to safety.
What led to the decision? The answer is simple. It was James's idea!
Bradberry told select media members on Saturday that the transition to safety has been smooth so far and that the idea to attempt a position switch was HIS IDEA. When asked why he made the decision, he offered a James Bradberry-esque answer. Two words... "Why not?"
Here's more straight from the source.
As James also mentioned, he's still under contract, but there are a lot of good players on this Eagles roster There's no guarantee that he will be on the Week 1 regular-season roster. In short, he's taking things a day at a time.
His tone is even-keel as always. Some may mistake that for a lack of confidence. We see it another way. The always-reserved James Bradberry is doing what he always does. He is being the consummate professional... He isn't saying much and letting the chips fall where they will.
We'll let you in on a secret. We're pulling for him. Philly is a city known for its underdog and comeback stories.
