NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal offers retirement advice to Eagles legend Jason Kelce
NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal recently offered some retirement advice to Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, who has been pondering his football future. 'The Diesel' officially retired from the NBA in 2011 after a career that spanned nearly two decades. One might say that, with a resume like that, he has some experience navigating the transition to life after sports.
"My advice to you is, if you are going to retire, accept it," O'Neal said to Kelce. "Enjoy your family, brother."
O'Neal then provided some personal perspective behind his advice.
"I made a lot of dumb mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody," O'Neal added. "That’s not the case for you, so enjoy your beautiful wife, enjoy your beautiful kids and never dwell on what we had. What we had is what we got. You got the ring, people know who you are. Enjoy because, again, I was an idiot. And I’ve talked about it a long time."
For what it's worth, Kelce seemed genuinely appreciative of the big fella's input, but there's no telling whether or not it will have any impact on his ultimate decision.
The Jason Kelce retirement watch continues.
Eagles fans everywhere continue to eagerly await an announcement from Kelce revealing if he's going to be suiting up in Philadelphia for a 14th season.
Kelce's teammate, Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, isn't especially optimistic that Kelce will be back out on the field next season considering all of the fun he appears to be having away from it.
"There's no shot," Mailata said. “You’re telling me he’s going shirts off in the games, gambling in the casinos, he’s coming back? No way. He’s having too much fun. He’s out there living his life. And I’m going to miss him for sure, man. This has been the greatest six years of my life for sure, being here in the NFL and getting to meet people like Jason Kelce.”
With free agency and the draft rapidly approaching, one would think that a decision from Kelce could be coming in the near future so that the Eagles could know how to operate over the offseason. Until then though, the Kelce watch continues.
