One headline from all three phases following the Eagles win versus Buccaneers in Week 3
The special teams unit continues to get better. They showed improvement in Week 3.
The Eagles special teams unit has been a work in progress ever since Nick Sirianni took over as head coach in 2021. On Monday, New punter Braden Mann's lone attempt forced the Bucs to begin a possession inside their own 20-yard line. Britain Covey notched a nice-looking 52-yard punt return and racked up 81 yards on three total returns.
Covey's 52-yarder was the longest return of his career. It also helped set the Eagles up for their first score of the game. He also tallied a 30-yard kick return. Kicker Jake Elliott was impressive as always, converting on all three of his field goal attempts. He has converted nine of ten field goal attempts and seven of eight extra-point tries this season.
Another new face made his debut on the Eagles special teams unit. Wide receiver Devon Allen was elevated from the practice squad, and he returned his first-ever kickoff 17 yards.
There are still kinks that need to be ironed out, but things seem to be improving on special teams. We'll see how things go moving forward.
