One rookie to watch at each position during Eagles training camp
NFL games are won in the trenches, and the Eagles are stacked along the offensive and defensive lines.
If Howie Roseman's business model looks familiar, it's because it should. The Eagles' executive vice president/general manager learned how to build rosters during his time with Andy Reid.
The secret ingredient is to build through the trenches. The Birds have never lost their way, and as a result, they'll field the NFL's top offensive and defensive lines in 2023. Make sure you pay attention to the young guys while you're checking them out.
Offensive Line - Tyler Steen
After spending his first three SEC seasons at Vanderbilt with the Commodores, Tyler Steen transferred to the Alabama Crimson Tide for his collegiate sawn song. After earning Second-Team All-SEC honors in 2022, the Philadelphia Eagles made him the 65th overall selection during Round 3 of the NFL Draft.
He enters camp as a lock to make the roster, but there are questions about how high he might soar. Will he assume the role of a depth piece, or is he good enough to beat out 2022 draftee Cam Jurgens and win the job of a starting right guard?
Defensive Line - Jalen Carter
Well, you had to know this was coming. Ahead of the most recent NFL Draft, there were whispers that Jalen Carter could be the first player taken. He fell to the ninth overall selection, where Philly drafted him, and that could turn out to be one of the best things that have happened to this organization since they made another controversial selection, taking a quarterback in Round 2 back in 2020.
Keep an eye on fellow rookie interior defensive lineman Moro Ojomo as well. He is talented enough to surprise some people.
