One rookie to watch at each position during Eagles training camp
The Eagles don't put a ton of stock in addressing the needs of their linebacker corps or the safety position, but that doesn't mean they won't be formidable.
It has often been said that the Eagles don't treat the linebacker and safety positions like they're of premium importance. Well... that's because they don't, but ask any longtime Birds fan, and they'll hip you to something quickly.
If there's minimal talent at the linebacker or safety positions, it becomes very noticeable in games and it does so very quickly.
Linebacker/EDGE - Nolan Smith
Though he'll be asked to be more of an edge rusher than a traditional linebacker, Nolan Smith has already endeared himself to the Eagles fan base and his coaches. He's articulate. He's focused, mature, and hardworking.
If all that athleticism translates to the game day playing field, you can expect to see a ton of Eagles jerseys bearing the number 3 at Lincoln Financial Field.
Safety - Sydney Brown
There's no nicer way to say this. K'Von Wallace has been a member of the Eagles organization since 2020, and every year since 2021, Philly has been trying safeties to place ahead of him on the depth chart.
Sydney Brown was the 66th player selected in the most recent NFL Draft, one spot after Tyler Steen heard his name called. He joins a safety unit that features Wallace, Reed Blankenship, Justin Evans, Terrell Edmunds, and possibly Tristin McCollum. In other words, Brown has a shot at getting on the field quickly and making an impact instantaneously.
