Can Zech McPhearson play slot cornerback?

There's a lot to like about Avonte Maddox. Once the light bulb came on and the Eagles figured out what most of us knew in 2018, that he's a SLOT CORNER, Number 29 took a nice step forward. Now, our major concerns are about durability which is, unfortunately, something that can't be fixed with coaching.

Josiah Scott is still on the roster. He had an opportunity to seize the backup slot cornerback role last season while Maddox recovered from an injury. That didn't go well, so here we are, and the Birds really don't have one... unless Zech McPhearson can do the job.

Zech has seen 278 defensive snaps during his first two seasons and another 687 on special teams. He hasn't set the world on fire when forced into action, but he hasn't stunk up the joint either, and at five-foot-eleven and 191 pounds, he might be the backup slot option Philly is missing.

Can Kelee Ringo play safety?

Speaking of position switches... Okay, we get it. Philly didn't draft Kelee Ringo to play safety. He's here for insurance as Darius Slay and James Bradberry are aging. He's also expected to take over for one of those guys when they move on. We're just trying to think of ways to get him on the field. He could use the work.

This past April, he fell in the draft because there were theories that the issues he had with his shoulder would linger, but he and the Eagles doctors said he's ready to go. That's good enough for us.

As far as his development is concerned, some believe he's 'tight' and not as fluid in his movement as you'd like an outside cornerback to be. A little on-field work will do him some good. Let him play deep and body a few tight ends. There are a lot of reasons to be excited with this young man.
