10 Philadelphia Eagles players who won't survive training camp
By Ryan Heckman
Last season ended with a thud, but this time around, the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping their offseason changes will make a lasting impact going into the 2024 season.
New coordinators, a youth movement happening on defense and an offense that can still hang with the best of them should have the Eagles right back up there competing with the NFC's elite. But first, they've got to make it through training camp and the preseason.
Throughout camp so far, we've seen some notable performances happening from key players on both sides of the ball. At the same time, there are some players who, at this point, don't stand much of a chance at making it out of camp and onto the final roster.
Which guys are in danger? Let's take a look at a select few.
Eagles players who won't make it onto the 53-man roster
Will Grier, QB
This one is pretty much a given. The Eagles aren't going to keep four quarterbacks -- zero chance. Will Grier is simply a camp body.
Lew Nichols, RB
The 2023 seventh-round pick by Green Bay has not appeared in an NFL game and is far too low on the Eagles' depth chart to have a shot at a roster spot.
Albert Okwuegbunam Jr., TE
Aside from being behind Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra and C.J. Uzomah, Albert Okwuegbunam hasn't done anything notable to warrant a permanent spot. His impact hasn't been felt enough.
Griffin Hebert, WR
The Eagles recently signed former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Griffin Herbert, who also did not make the team in Seattle. He's at the bottom of the depth chart and, barring a miracle, he's not making the cut.
Anim Dankwah, OT
As maybe the last offensive tackle on the depth chart, currently, the 2024 undrafted free agent would have to make a drastic move up in order to warrant a spot. And, quite frankly, that doesn't appear likely.
Julian Okwara, OLB
Philly is pretty much set at the outside linebacker position, and the former Detroit Lion will be looking for a new team when it's all said and done.
Patrick Johnson, OLB
Like Okwara, there is just no room for Patrick Johnson. The Eagles have enough talent at the position already, and Johnson is going to be one of those just barely on the outside looking in. That said, he may be a practice squad candidate.
Matt Hennessy, IOL
This might come as a surprise to some fans, as Matt Hennessy is somewhat of a fringe guy. But, aside from the starting three, Philadelphia also has two rookie interior lineman which were acquired with draft capital. Hennessy could be one of the very last players cut at his position.
Zech McPhearson, CB
Unfortunately for Zech McPhearson, the Eagles invested a whole lot in their cornerback room this offseason. This is another example of a player who doesn't have a spot because, well, there is no room.
Mario Goodrich, CB
Like McPhearson, Mario Goodrich is playing a position where there is far too much talent ahead of him. There is a chance he could be brought back to the practice squad, but he won't make the roster.
