Potential Eagles 2024 free agents who are primed for big seasons in 2023
Olamide Zaccheaus and Quez Watkins, wide receivers
When mentioning 'big seasons' at the wide receiver position, we understand that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith will enjoy the bulk of the targets, as they should, so the winner of the slot receiver job and any reserves are charged with a simple task. They need to make the most of the opportunities that they get when the ball comes their way.
A year ago, Quez Watkins was on the receiving end of a beautiful bomb from Jalen Hurts in Week 2 versus the Vikings. He also caught a huge touchdown pass on the road versus the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, last season's run is remembered for his failures: the fumble versus the Washington Commanders, failing to fight hard enough for the ball during an interception versus the Dallas Cowboys, and a huge drop during Super Bowl LVII.
We still believe in this young man. We also believe, this time around, those errors will be transformed into better results. Olamide Zaccheaus, may produce a better stat line as we believe he'll be on the field during more of the third-down situations.
Zaccheaus will tally more first-down and touchdown receptions. That's the prediction, but regardless of how it shapes up, we expect everyone will be pleased with both guys at the season's end.
Dan Arnold, tight end
In today's NFL, we celebrate tight ends who are nightmare matchups and snag a ton of targets on third down and in the red zone. Dan Arnold can do that, but he won't be featured in the Eagles' offense.
Dallas Goedert is the clear-cut TE1, and we mentioned the running backs and tight ends, so in knowing that, Arnold will be lucky to get two targets per game. As is the case with Quez and Olamide, he'll make the most of all of them. Expect timely catches during important situations, one or two 'wow moments', and two or three TDs.
Couple that with his blocking and willingness to do the dirty work. Arnold will make this team and prove to be a nice acquisition.
