#1: Improving the secondary will be key for the Eagles during the coming offseason.

You knew this one was coming.

Out of all of the ailments the Philadelphia Eagles have had this season, none have been more damaging than the horrid play of their secondary.

These words, and more, could illustrate what the season has ultimately morphed into. Heading into the season with sky-high expectations, the Eagles have faced adversity and tough questions week after week. It has created an atmosphere where, despite a positive record, there is negativity and frustration.

Headlined on the outside by cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, the duo was supposed to be a key part in repeating the team's elite performance on that side of the ball. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, that has not been the case.

Slay has only seen his numbers dip marginally this season; while a great player in zone coverage, he has shown some tread on his tires in man coverage. Yet, he has still been a productive player when on the field.

Bradberry, on the other hand, has not lived up to his billing. The veteran has constantly been beaten this season, specifically in man coverage. His regression has played a role in the overall step back the team's defense has taken.

Add more inconsistencies from the other cornerbacks on the roster, and you get a unit that needs some key additions this offseason. They can do so through the draft, with trades, or during free agency. An improved secondary is high on the priority list for Philadelphia. If they can accomplish those tasks, along with improving the other glaring needs on their roster and in their coaching ranks, the Eagles will be a force once again in 2024.
