Saquon Barkley deservedly receives expected honor following his Eagles debut

It doesn't get much better than Saquon Barkley's debut with the Philadelphia Eagles this past Friday. You have to rewind the clock 20 years to find something that's even comparable.

Terrell Owens caught eight receptions for 68 yards and scored three TDs in 2004. On Friday, Saquon racked up 24 carries, 109 yards rushing, and two receptions for 23 yards.

Three total TDs would punctuate his night. So would the respect of adoring fans, but it appears his admiration stretches past the NFL's most loyal fan base.

From now on, every time an Eagles fan hears 'Brazil', they're going to think about football. They're going to reminisce about a Friday night when Saquon played his heart out for their Birds.

Following Barkley's Eagles debut in São Paulo, he's been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It's a well-deserved honor. Frankly, had he not earned it, we would have requested an investigation.

Now, here's the thing. A bar has been set, but let's also set realistic expectations. If you think Saquon will score three TDs every game, that won't happen.

Wisdom must be used. Saquon must be used in moderation to ensure he's fresh all year.

So, we'll celebrate his performance for a few more hours, and then, it's on to the Atlanta Falcons. You can smile though. Philly has a star here, and it feels like the sky is the limit.

This is the best offense he's played on. His current QB is an upgrade from the former. This Eagles O-line is the best that he's ever run behind. Be excited. He's going to enjoy a fantastic year.
