Every year, four days after we celebrate the birth of our great nation, one that began in the City of Brotherly Love, we celebrate the birth of a football team. 90 years ago, on July 8th of 1933, the Philadelphia Eagles were born.

The Birds were established as a replacement for a Frankford Yellow Jackets franchise that had just endured bankruptcy. That's when a management group led by Bert Bell swooped in (pun intended) and acquired the rights to birth an NFL franchise.

On September 10, Philly's Eagles will embark on the 91st regular season in franchise history. Two months and two days earlier, tons of enthusiasts hung out on various social media platforms to celebrate the midnight green.

Since their first game, a 56-0 loss to the New York Giants on October 15th of 1933, the Eagles have captivated fans of all races, nationalities, and religious beliefs for 90 seasons. During the 2023-2024 NFL campaign, they'll do so for a 91st.

Over the years, they joined forces with the Pittsburgh Steelers to form the 'Steagles' in 1933 (both franchises joined forces after losing players to military service during World War II). The Birds appeared in four NFL Championship Games that preceded the 1970 NFL/AFL merger, and they won three of them in 1948, 1949, and 1960. They have also appeared in four Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl LII in February of 2018.

Hopefully, that kelly green reveal will come soon enough.

90 years is a long time to do anything. If you've reached your 90th birthday, we tip our cap to you. We can't think of any couple that has celebrated a 90th anniversary, but if there is a man and a woman somewhere that will find the fountain of youth and defy imagination, you won't have to worry about finding the adoration of nations of admirers.

The Birds, at the time of this story's release, have retired nine jersey numbers. They have given us countless memories and Pro Football Hall of Famers. Heck, we even got that Super Bowl after a long championship drought. Yes, 90 years is a long time. Here's to 90 more. We can't wait to see them run out on the field at the NovaCare Complex for the home opener on September 14th.
