All week, we were nervous. We've never been huge fans of crew chief Shawn Smith and his crew. The Philadelphia Eagles never seem to win when he's the official.
So, you can imagine how we felt when we learned he was assigned to this game. The last time we saw him, he threw C.J. Gardner-Johnson out of the Week 16 game vs. the Washington Commanders for no reason.
And, then Philly lost that game...
Sure, we know blaming the refs for wins and losses is bush league. but you've seen the officiating in pro football this season, haven't you?
We have to give his crew credit though. They called a fair game, and in the fourth quarter, they may have done the Birds a solid.
Nick Sirianni almost screwed the Eagles in fourth quarter vs. Rams.
The scenario... A 19-15 Eagles lead with just under nine minutes remaining... We think Philly is scrimmaging from the Rams' 33-yard line... Who knows? There was a blizzard. What we do know is the Birds needed just under five yards to convert needs just under five yards on fourth down to keep a drive going.
We think the clock reached zero before the snap. It was close if it didn't. Maybe that was why Nick Sirianni was trying to call a timeout?
Whatever the thinking was, it didn't matter. Jalen Hurts took the shotgun snap and delivered one to A.J. Brown to move the chains. That produced a first down. Eventually, Jake Elliott would convert a field goal to push the Eagles lead to seven points at the time.
Can you imagine where we'd be if Nick had been granted the timeout?
