We'll believe it when we see it.

Philadelphia Eagles fans know that one thing's for sure, and that's that the Dallas Cowboys are going to be comedy gold for them on and off the field. Sure, the Cowboys haven't been miserably bad in recent years; heck, they even won the NFC East in 2023. But Jerry Jones' need for being in the spotlight has always come back to bite the 'Boys and Eagles fans love every minute of it.

To make things even sweeter, while the Cowboys have still been unable to reach the NFC Championship Game (and therefore the Super Bowl), the Eagles have. Philly won the Super Bowl two seasons ago and won the division last year. It's been good to be an Eagles fan. Cowboys fans can't exude that same pride.

Somehow, though, NFL executives seem to be fooled by the Cowboys once again, and some have even gone as far as thinking that Dallas could be a Super Bowl contender in 2026. According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, "people league-wide are higher on Dallas than fans realize".

Eagles fans will hate hearing latest chatter from NFL executives

La Canfora said he was chatting with Marty Hurney, the Panthers' GM from 2002 to 2020, when he said:

“I think the Chargers and the Cowboys are the two most improved teams in the league, for me, as far as moving up to a position where they could really win the whole thing," Hurney said. "They both have the QB and they have that QB-head coach combination and they have had a great offseason and the Cowboys have really built up that defense extremely well. I think Jerry has done a heck of a job this year.”

What it came down to is that people were impressed with how the Cowboys fixed their biggest weakness and ultimately respected what Brian Schottenheimer did in his first year on the job, despite not being a popular hire. One longtime executive told La Canfora:

“He had to deal with all of bulls*** going back to last summer [Micah Parsons dealt and more contract unrest], and he shut a lot of people up. Including me.”

Okay, so we're doing this again, are we? Are we buying into the Cowboys as Super Bowl contenders? Well, Eagles fans know better than anyone how that's worked out for their divisional foes over the past three decades, and the answer is not well. Why should we expect this to be any different?

Hey, maybe the Cowboys manage to pry the division away from Philly in 2026. Even when they've won the NFC East in the past, the result has been the same - They don't reach the NFC title game yet again. Why are we expecting that to change?

People can hype up the Cowboys all they want, but until Dallas actually reaches the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl, why should Eagles fans be fearful of it happening?
