There's nothing like kicking your feet up on a Sunday and watching the Philadelphia Eagles trounce the Dallas Cowboys. Well... That's correct in theory, but we learned a few things in Week 17. Beating Dallas is a delicious dish at any temperature, but added ingredients can make for a better soufflé. Here's what Birds fans enjoyed on Sunday.
First, we add the Kelly Green jerseys. The last time we saw those in a home game vs. the hated Cowboys, Emmett Smith was stopped on fourth down (twice).
Oh, and have you heard? Saquon Barkley eclipsed 2,000 yards rushing, making him the first Bird to do so. Philly finishes their regular season with a home game vs. the hated New York Giants in Week 18. Guess what we're going to be talking about.
Saquon Barkley's march to the 2,000-yard club is just one of a few major monumental accomplishments by the Eagles vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
Now a member of the 2,000-yard club, Saquon Barkley needs 100 yards rushing vs. his former team, the New York Giants, to break Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record, one that stands at 2,105 yards. Philly's NFC East crown also marks the first time he's been part of a division-winning team.
Saquon needs to run for 101 yards to make history. Expect a few Birds fans to be in front of the TV on Sunday.
Other notable achievements accomplished by Eagles stars vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
One day, we'll all be old and grey. We'll tell the grandchildren about Saquon eclipsing 2,000 yards rushing vs. the hated Cowboys. But, when we do, we'll need to be sure we tell them a 41-7 win gave Philly the NFC East's crown.
Oh, and by the way. A.J. Brown eclipsed 4,000 yards receiving. Entering this one with 3,995 yards on the ledger, 11 added 36 yards to the cause on three receptions. He also scored a TD. That one doubles as the first TD pass of Tanner McKee's career.
Following A.J.'s celebration (he launched the ball into the stands), some organizational teamwork got the ball back, so Tanner could hold onto it and start his trophy case.
That case will need to be rather large because Kenny's second TD pass came less than ten game minutes later. This time, he found DeVonta Smith.
Philly's is the most lopsided we've seen since the Birds scorched the Cowboys in the '44-6 Game' on December 28, 2008, just over 16 years ago.
Another goal has been accomplished. Philly has clinched the NFC East for the 13th time in franchise history. This is their 4th season with 13 or more wins in franchise history.
They'll now look for their 14th win. That will tie a franchise record. At best, Philly has guaranteed themselves the second seed in the NFC Playoffs. They'll need some help to earn the top spot, but it isn't impossible. We'll see what happens. We'll certainly be watching.
