Yeah, we know! We know... Sitting Saquon Barkley during the Philadelphia Eagles regular-season finale is absolutely the right decision. We're just being selfish. We want cake, and we want to eat it. Team needs come first. There's no denying that, but there are times when we ask ourselves questions, two more than most.
Why can't we win the Super Bowl AND help Saquon Barkley pass Eric Dickerson to claim the NFL's single-season rushing record? And, how bad would we feel if, rather than see that happen, we see him carted off because he's been injured?
That last statement kind of puts everything into perspective, doesn't it? We'd never state the New York Giants would intentionally harm of injure Saquon, but you can best believe they weren't going to roll over and hand him the record, especially seeing as how they've been embarrassed and trolled for letting him walk.
Breaking Eric Dickerson's record would have been a massive achievement for Philly's Pro Bowl running back, the Eagles organization, and the City of Brotherly Love. Saquon was honest in sharing he's slightly disappointed he won't have the opportunity. There are bigger fish to fry though. To his credit, he was a team player and referenced that side of the coin.
Damn, Philly had better win the Super Bowl! You can bet your bottom dollar that's going to be one of the narratives as we move forward. Just ask 'Screaming A. Smith'. Oops... Sorry about that... We meant 'Stephen A. Smith'.
Maybe a few more dollars in Saquon Barkley's bank account, $750,000 to be exact, will help wipe away a few of those tears.
They say money isn't everything. Then again, some say it's the only thing. Personally, we drift back and forth between two theories.
Some days, we believe, 'money isn't everything, but it helps'. One just can't let the love of money rule them. On other days, greed kicks in, and we're trapped thinking whoever said 'money isn't everything' was only saying that to make himself feel better about not having any.
Okay, we're rambling... None of that has anything to do with the point we intended to make, and all of that can be placed in the file where we store conversations we can have at later dates.
We've said all of that to state this though. We know Saquon Barkley is disappointed, but hopefully, he can find solace in knowing he's added a few more dollars to further secure his family's financial security.
By virtue of ending the season as the NFL's rushing leader and earning a spot on the 2024 Pro Bowl roster, he has cashed in on $750,000. He also has playoff incentives he can cash in on.
Yeah... Money isn't everything. Legacy and imprint is important too, but if we were Saquon )which we aren't), that would certainly help us dry a few more of our tears and soothe those feelings of disappointment.
Hey, don't get angry at us. We're just being honest with you!
