Jackson Slater emerged as one of the standouts on day one of practice at the Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The versatile offensive lineman from Sacramento State told Inside the Iggles that he met with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.
If the City of Brotherly Love is a potential landing spot, Philadelphia seems to be a natural fit for the Sacramento State star.
FCS standout Jack Slater draws Eagles attention at Senior Bowl:
The Eagles boast one of the league’s most dominant offensive lines. Still, there’s always room to add depth and develop talent for the future, particularly to guard against injuries or free agency losses.
Enter Slater, an FCS First-Team All-American in 2024 and a player who is expecting a big week at the Senior Bowl. He would have the opportunity to develop with the NFL's best offensive line coach: Jeff Stoutland.
"[The Eagles] have developed guys really well," Slater said on Tuesday after practice.
Stoutland’s reputation as a talent developer is unmatched, transforming raw prospects into top-tier NFL starters. Jordan Mailata is a prime example, evolving from a rugby player with no prior football experience into one of the league’s premier offensive tackles.
"Jordan Mailata... a guy that's never played football and comes in as one of the best in the league," Slater said, "I want to find a team that I'm going to excel the best at -- probably one that favors shorter, athletic guys."
While most of the Eagles' offensive line stands taller than six-foot-five, the success of six-foot-three Cam Jurgens suggests that size isn’t a dealbreaker in Philadelphia’s system.
At six-foot-five and one-half inches, as verified by Senior Bowl measurements, Slater may fall on the smaller end for linemen. However, he sees this as an asset, particularly with a coach like Stoutland who understands how to maximize a player’s unique traits.
"A coach like Stoutland would be really cool, for sure," Slater said.
While players meet with nearly every team at the Senior Bowl, watch the Eagles as a potential landing spot for Slater. He's a player with a unique stature and many ways to impact the game on the offensive line.
