With the news that star Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has been cleared for action, the stars are quickly aligning for a signature explosive effort for #26 against the Chicago Bears.
And it's not just his return to health that leaves him primed to steal the spotlight on Monday night,
Eagles' offensive line should look better against Bears' run defense
Barkley has had a frustrating start to the 2026 season. In the home opener against Washington, Barkley looked spry, but the biggest issue showed up early. At times, the All-Pro back had limited running room, but Barkley still mustered 83 rushing yards on 15 carries for 5.5 yards per carry. The legs are still ready to churn and absorb serious burn; it's just a matter of providing the star rusher with ample running room to really get going.
That assignment now falls to the new lineup in the trenches, with Drew Kendall at center and Cam Jurgens also bouncing out to left guard in Week 2 against Tennessee. Of course, Barkley didn't have much of a chance behind that new-look front, as he suffered the stinger that knocked him out early in the first quarter against Tennessee.
But now that he's back for Week 3, he will face off against Chicago's front seven, which this Philadelphia offense can outmuscle.
Through two games, Chicago has surrendered 244 rushing yards, while the defensive line has only two tackles for a loss this season. The push up front provided by this Eagles' line will strongly factor into how big a night Barkley can have, but this trench matchup should favor Philadelphia.
Tennessee posed interior problems in Week 2 and gave the Eagles trouble, led by All-Pro defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. Looking closer at this trench matchup, the Bears don't have a game-wrecker of that magnitude up front. As long as the Eagles' line communicates and moves bodies to their potential, Barkley should have plenty of breathing room to break several runs for chunk plays.
Saquon Barkley isn't only back ready for heavy lifting for Eagles
While the Bears will be without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, their offense has already punished opponents in the ground game. Former Eagles D'Andre Swift and fellow back Kyle Monangai have been gashing opponents for 200+ rushing yards per game, setting up a grueling ground-and-pound battle. Tank Bigsby will also factor in for Philadelphia, as could Will Shipley, but there's no doubt this spot screams Barkley breakout game on the early-season slate.
And per Tim McManus of ESPN, Barkley is locked and loaded for a breakout showing:
"I feel like I'm in a really good spot," Barkley said. "I know they wouldn't let me go out there if I wasn't able to do it. I'm going to let the game come, and I'm going to go out there and play fearless, don't worry about it."

All signs point to a physical, smashmouth showdown in this Week 3 contest, and you can bet Barkley is ready to power his way to a monster performance.
