The landscape of the NFL is being flipped on its head with the crazy number of coaches being fired, but one of them might just make enough sense for the Philadelphia Eagles to pick up their phone and make a call.
The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Mike McDaniel after four years. McDaniel went 35-33 as the head coach of Miami, making the playoffs in each of his first two seasons, losing both games.
There's going to be a lot of interest in McDaniel being either a head coach or an offensive coordinator elsewhere in the league. He will land another job, but could that job potentially be in Philadelphia, running the offense in 2026?
Nick Sirianni would be crazy to not call Mike McDaniel
Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has been more of a disaster of a hire than Brian Johnson was back in 2023. Patullo's offense is ranked 24th in total offense (311.2 yards per game), 23rd in passing (194.3 yards per game), 18th in rushing (116.9 yards per game), and 19th in scoring (22.3 points per game).
These are not the numbers of a team that has Super Bowl aspirations. Too many times throughout the season, the defense for Philadelphia has had to carry the offense through games to win them, but there were plenty of times when the offense let the defense down and still lost despite great performances.
This is a chance for Sirianni to right the wrong of last offseason and do the exact same thing he did in the 2024 offseason, bringing in Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator. It's a no-brainer move to bring in McDaniel to fix the offense.
In his first three seasons as the Dolphins' head coach, they were twice ranked in the top 10 in yards and in the top 13 in points. The 2025 season is the exception, as the offense was 26th in yards and 25th in points, but that was without Tyreek Hill. One thing McDaniel did well late in the season, though, was that he had to adjust to doing: running the ball.
That's where someone like McDaniel can come in and help the Eagles. He would understand how to properly use Saquon Barkley and be creative with Jalen Hurts runs while protecting him from injury.

McDaniel makes all the sense in the world to be the offensive coordinator for the Eagles, even if it is a pipe dream for the Birds.
