It’s a true privilege for any NFL player to hold one of the Philadelphia Eagles’ active roster spots, because general manager Howie Roseman will continue tinkering as much as it takes to give the team its best chance to reach the Super Bowl.
At this point in the season, most roster transactions are low-level, like moving players on and off the practice squad.
This year’s Eagles team is unique, though, in that guys on the edges of the 53-man roster could find themselves watching games from their couch come mid-January. Fans should expect an uptick in roster movement at the start of the postseason, as practice squad players on non-playoff qualifiers become free agents and can be added as depth by contending teams.
The final month of the regular season can be a time when roster spots are lost. With that in mind, here are five Eagles players currently among the active 53 who should be on notice, starting with Black Friday.
5 Philadelphia Eagles current on the fringes of the team’s projected playoff roster
RB A.J. Dillon
The Eagles signed Dillon for a specific role this offseason, but that role is now being filled by the emerging Tank Bigsby. Dillion’s been among the team’s weekly healthy scratches, and hasn’t played an offensive or special teams snap since Week 6. If the Eagles want to add a free agent prior to the postseason, Dillion is likely the first player out.
PR Xavier Gipson
Philly’s return game has been brutal since Day 1 of this season, and Gipson had a crushing giveaway on an ill-advised punt return in the fourth quarter of last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Gipson has now put the football on the ground 12 times in 38 career touches. He’s got some juice, but turnovers are the fastest way off Nick Sirianni’s roster.
Xavier Gipson has 38 career touches and 12 fumbles, equating to a 32% fumble rate.

CB Kelee Ringo
It’s looking more likely by the week that Philly will eventually cut ties with Ringo, who was a fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft. He’s still barely 23 years old, but Roseman’s flurry of moves to acquire Jakorian Bennett, Michael Carter II, and Jaire Alexander (pre-retirement) says the quiet part out loud. Ringo’s contributing enough on special teams to stick on the roster into January, but it’s definitely not a guarantee.
TE Kylen Granson
Grant Calcaterra should be a candidate for this list, too, as his blocking has gone from poor to disastrous this year. His value as a route runner behind Dallas Goedert is too valuable, though, and Granson has done himself few favors this year. He’s the Eagles’ lowest-graded offensive player, per Pro Football Focus, and Cameron Latu’s special teams prowess could lead to an increased role on offense down the stretch.

EDGE Josh Uche
The Eagles were lauded by fans for signing Uche back in March, but he’s kind of a one-trick pony as a situation-based pass rusher. He hasn’t played a defensive snap since Week 8, and that’s unlikely to change going forward with Jaelan Phillips, Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith Jr. now all in the mix. Uche’s skillset makes him an intriguing depth piece, but with a minimal role on special teams, his roster spot could become expendable come playoff time.
