I may have mentioned this in another story. You have to forgive me. The days began running together after the Super Bowl. Someone asked me a question though. What are you guys going to talk about now that the Philadelphia Eagles don't have any more games to play?
Wait! What?
I tried to be understanding. I realize everyone isn't a football nerd like me. So,I told him this is when the fun really begins. The Senior Bowl and Super Bowl are behind us. The next stop on the journey if the NFL Scouting Combine.
After that, we get into Top 30 visits and Pro Days. The 2025 NFL Draft follows. You know what that means. It's mock draft season again.
Recently, we stumbled across a unique angle. Pro Football Focus recently dropped a mock featuring skill players only.
PFF mocks tight end Mason Taylor to the Philadelphia Eagles in a skill-player-only mock draft.
Creativity always gets you a thumbs up with us. Credit Nathan Jahnke for this one, a mock draft featuring offensive weapons. Jalen Hurts has plenty to work with, but there's never anything wrong with stocking the shelves, so we gave this one a gander to see what they came up with.
By virtue of winning football's biggest game, Philly is slated to make the final selection of Round 1. That's the 32nd pick overall.
Jahnke sends Mason Taylor to the Birds. He's the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer, Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor. Here's what was stated as the reasoning.
"The Super Bowl champions have multiple starters and role players hitting free agency, and they don’t have the cap space to prioritize everyone. Decisions will need to be made, which could include moving on from Dallas Goedert, who recently turned 30 years old.
His worst two offensive season grades have been the last two seasons. While Goedert deserves to be a starting tight end in the NFL, it could make sense for the Eagles to trade or release him given his salary. Taylor would be the best replacement among the remaining tight ends to compete with Grant Calcaterra for the starting job."
Okay, there's a lot to unpack there. Again, we like the angle, but the reasoning swings at the first pitch and misses wildly.

Dallas Goedert isn't leaving. He's signed through 2025 and hits free agency in 2026, and even though Calcaterra has flashed at times, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has stated he'd like the offense to run through Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Goedert. That isn't a bad idea when your offense fields that level of talent.
Goedert is one of the rare modern tight ends who catches the ball and blocks with equal proficiency. Mason Taylor is going to be a good tight end. Dallas is better, but much of this probably won't matter anyway because, as we know, Philly will take an offensive or defensive lineman.
We're keeping our fingers crossed for an elite edge rusher.
