Years later, we're stilled bummed because Zach Ertz left the Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles traded Zach Ertz on October 15th, 2021, and by doing so, they lost one of the greatest tight ends to ever play for the franchise. He spent time with the Arizona Cardinals. He's now a member of the rival Washington Commanders. His most recent trip to Lincoln Financial Field came on Thursday Night Football.
Zach can never be the enemy, but he wore the enemy's jersey this past Thursday. Truthfully, we're still torn up about seeing this.
Looking back at Zach Ertz's night in Philly as the enemy on Thursday Night Football.
After nine seasons with the Eagles, Ertz solidified himself as a Philadelphia legend. Before his trade, he had notched 6,267 receiving yards, 38 touchdowns, 3 Pro Bowl nods, and a Super Bowl victory.
He's played the Eagles before, while with the Arizona Cardinals, This however was the first time he played vs. his old team in Philly.
Ertz will come home again at some point, but it probably won't be as a player. Thursday was an emotional evening. We also learned Ertz has some steam left in the engine.
Prior to the game, Ertz received a standing ovation from the home-town crowd. From then on, it was game time.
Late in the fourth quarter, Ertz caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Jayden Daniels. That was followed by a reception on the two-point conversion to give Washington 18 points.
The touchdown was only Ertz's second of the season. He scored his first the Panthers in Week 7. He finished with 47 yards receiving on six receptions.
Ertz will meet the Eagles again later this season. That one will be played on the Commanders' turf. The game is scheduled for December 22 at 1 PM EST.
Gosh, we really miss this guy!
