This week has already been rough for the Philadelphia Eagles after they lost to the Chicago Bears by 20 points, but linebacker Zack Baun's update makes it even worse.

The Eagles released their first Week 4 injury report, revealing that Baun did not practice because he is now in concussion protocol. No reports during the Bears game said he was hurt, so this news came out of nowhere.

In three games this year, Baun has racked up 25 tackles and three pass deflections. This puts Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in line to start in his place if he can't go, but it was the last thing this Eagles franchise needed to hear right now.

Eagles facing some major issues entering Week 4 with Zack Baun's injury

There are already concerns about Jihaad Campbell's play this season and how he's become a liability in pass coverage. While Campbell has been flying around the field and leading the team in tackles, he's been exposed in pass coverage, allowing a 138.9 passer rating, 10-of-12 pass completions, 128 yards, and one touchdown.

Many Eagles fans have been calling for Trotter to start, but in Campbell's place, not Baun's. Trotter had a great preseason, and many believe he is ready for a bigger role in this defense, but starting him with Campbell is a scary thought.

This Eagles defense is already playing poorly this season; the stats tell one story, but the eye test tells another. Philly ranks 13th in total defense, allowing 320.3 yards per game, and ninth in pass defense, allowing 193 yards per game. Those stats don't show the ungodly number of tackles this team has had and the unusual amount of miscommunication that allowed big plays to happen.

Philly is in disarray on offense and defense, but defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's unit was supposed to be the most stable. Now, with Baun potentially being out for the Los Angeles Rams game, that is not good news.

Los Angeles already looks like it will have its star wide receiver, Puka Nacua, back for the Eagles, so it's making things worse. The Eagles might be playing without arguably the most important player on the field.

There's already the Jalen Carter concern with him playing with a fractured wrist; Cooper DeJean hasn't looked like himself since the Week 1 injury; and Andrew Mukuba's knee injury is clearly still bothering him because he hasn't played well on the field—just one disaster after another in Philly.

This week is already short for the Eagles to prepare, so it may be too soon for Baun to clear concussion protocol, which puts Philly behind the eight ball. It's not looking good right now for the team, and they really couldn't afford any bad news after that Week 3 embarrassment.
