This is just off the wire from KFFL:
Eagles | Team has deal in place with Samuel
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 08:42:57 -0800
ComcastSportsNet.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have a deal in place with free-agent CB Asante Samuel (Patriots), according to a source. Terms of the deal have yet to be finalized.
I will update as soon as I have more info.
UPDATE!
Sporting News is also reporting that this is a done deal. They even have some contract figures.
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign cornerback Asante Samuel, according to several reports.
The deal is expected to be worth $47.2 million over five years, ESPN reports. [...]
Howard Eskin from 610WIP radio says the Eagles will sign Chris Clemons later today. Clemons is only 26 years old, and is coming off an 8 sack season with the Raiders.
This may seem like an under the radar move, but it would be a very good one. Clemens would most likely play defensive end in the Eagles system, and will be a very valuable guy in the DE rotation.
I will update this as soon as I find out more.
Free agency is here, and there are rampant rumors involving the Eagles and prize free agent CB Asante Samuel. According to Micah Warren of Blast Magazine, Samuel has already agreed to a deal with the Eagles. This is shocking news, and a developing story. I will keep you posted with updates, as soon as I have them.
There is no question that the Eagles need another CB, because Will James was just terrible as the teams nickle. The Eagles have already tendered CB Joselio Hanson for 1 year, and that will give them decent depth. Hanson took James job as the nickle CB, and [...]
The Eagles have officially kicked off free agency by bringing back hard hitting Safety, and kick returner J.R. Reed. It is reported to be a 1 year deal, and there should probably be a press conference today.
They then offered a one year tender to restricted free agent Joselio Hanson, worth $1.47 million for one year. That tender holds a 2nd round value, so if any other team were to sign Hanson to a contract, they would have to give up a 2nd round draft pick as compensation.
These two moves were pretty much expected, and will just be the very beginning of [...]
The Eagles could definitely use another safety. Brian Dawkins is nearing the end of his tremendous Eagles career. Injuries slowed him somewhat last year, and you wonder how much he has left in the tank. Dawkins will be back for this year, but a future plan needs to be put in place.
Sean Considine was a disappointment as a starting strong safety. Despite adding 20 lbs of muscle, Sean still had major issues with tackling and playing physical is not something he does. His coverage skills are pretty solid, and to his credit he was improving in certain areas of his game. [...]
The Kearse is over. 12 hours before free agency officially kicks off the Eagles have released defensive end Jevon Kearse. This cut is not a surprise at all, as everybody has expected it to happen for a while now.
The most disappointing thing about this, is the fact that Jevon never lived up to the large expectations placed upon him. In his first season with the Eagles he started off hot piling up 6 sacks in his first 7 games as an Eagle. Unfortunately Kearse did not register a single sack after Thanksgiving, and his production lessened each year after that.
In 2006 [...]
Jim Johnson quietly dropped a bomb while at the NFL’s scouting combine. When asked about the Iggles current Linebacker situation, Johnson said this:
“I’m optimistic,” he said. “I felt good at the end of the year. I felt good about our linebackers coming around. Stewart Bradley showed he could play at middle linebacker. Omar can play the middle or outside backer. Chris Gocong, Akeem Jordan, I really like the way they played. Takeo Spikes, coming off that [shoulder] injury, I think he’ll be fine.”
It sounds like Johnson is saying Stewart Bradley will be the teams starting MLB in 2008! The real [...]
I caught this on NFL Network, and thought I would share it with everybody. RIP Minister of Defense.
The Iggles have an outstanding DT tandem right now. Mike Patterson(when he is not high), and Brodrick Bunkley are both first round picks who really have made an impact on the Bird’s defense. Bunkley saw his first real playing time last year, and made everybody around him better. The Eagles run defense went from 26th(2006), to 7th(2007) with Bunkley as the starter. His ability to eat blockers made it hard for teams to run on the Eagles, and definitely made Mike Patterson a much more productive player. Patterson lead the NFC in tackles for a DT with 66 and registered [...]
Fan-Sided has added another blog to the network. The name is Side Lion Report, and it is all about the Detroit Lions of course.

The Eagles are definitely going to be looking for a defensive end. While Trent Cole had a Pro Bowl season, the Eagles did not get much from the rest of their defensive ends. Jevon Kearse has just not worked out, and will be released soon. Darren Howard is another free agent DE who really has not done much. Jerome McDougle spent the entire season on IR(big surprise). Juqua Thomas proved he is really not starter material, and is a solid reserve. Victor Abiamiri did not play much as a rookie until late in the season. He did an OK job, but [...]
