facebooktwitterreddit

After all of the waiting and anticipation surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, they’ll finally hit the field for OTAs today! Following gaining full control of all personnel decisions, head coach Chip Kelly wasted no time making drastic moves to improve the roster in the ways that he felt were necessary. It’ll be our first chance to see the entire team…well, whoever attends the voluntary practices, in midnight green before the 2015 season begins. But what should we look for as OTAs begin? All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

EAGLES: OTAs should be anything but boringMartin Frank of CourierPostOnline.com

"Typically, organized team activities are mere exercises to make sure everyone is in shape and that nobody gets hurt.Even in Chip Kelly’s first season, in 2013, the only suspense was how the players would adjust to his uptempo practices and the emphasis on sports science. After all, there wasn’t much turnover from the previous season under former coach Andy Reid, and the expectations were relatively low coming off a 4-12 season."

Brian Mihalik looms large at 6-9 as Eagles begin OTAs – Zach Berman of Philly.com

"Of the 256 players drafted into the NFL this year, Brian Mihalik was the tallest. It should not be a surprise he ended up with the Eagles.Mihalik, a 6-foot-9, 302-pound defensive end from Boston College, made his only pre-draft visit to Philadelphia. He was not a surefire draft pick, but the Eagles validated their interest by making him a seventh-round choice. The pick instantly brought to mind Chip Kelly’s catchphrase: “Big people beat up little people.” And if it didn’t, Kelly reiterated it minutes after the selection."

NFL uniform power rankings: Who tops the list? – Matt Verderame of FanSided.com

"Sports are made for great debate. Who is the greatest player of all-time? Which defense is the best ever? What quarterback would you want most with two minutes remaining and the Super Bowl on the line? One of the most interesting debates always centers around the uniforms. In the National Football League, 32 teams are trying to better the other franchises. Why? For jersey sales and brand recognition. Some hit the mark and others fall woefully short. It seems some teams are changing looks every couple of years, while others have had the same uniform forever."

The Press Is On For Eagles’ DBsDave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"The gate is closed. That’s the philosophy the Eagles want to employ in coverage, so instead of giving wide receivers a free release up the field, the cornerbacks and safeties in coverage will be more physical, aggressive and challenging. It’s an important fundamental approach to understand as the team’s Organized Team Activities kick off this week at the NovaCare Complex."

Chip Kelly Profiled In Sports IllustratedBo Wulf of PhiladelphiaEagles.com

"This week’s Sports Illustrated features an in-depth look at head coach Chip Kelly and the moves he’s made since taking over control of personnel this offseason. Greg Bedard’s piece on Kelly is insightful and more than worth your time as an Eagles fan.For some of the highlights, here’s what some around the league had to say about Kelly:“The first time you meet him, you know he’s smart … He’s a quick thinker. He changes gears so fast: He can be talking about one thing and then changing to something else in a beat. But he’s also a real good listener. And it doesn’t take long to realize he thinks differently. You’re like, Who is this guy?”“I know that Chip’s doing it his way … He knows what type of team he wants, and he knows in his mind how he’s going to get to that point. That’s what I respect.”— Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien"

Eagles inside linebacker Emmanuel Acho is excited for the start of OTAs, especially regarding which quarterback on the team he will pick off first. This is pretty funny!
